How to Stay Focused While Working Out

Have you ever gone to the gym or been working out and just felt distracted and unfocused? It happens to a lot of us especially when we are just starting out in our fitness journey. Luckily, there are some tips and tricks to help you stay focused while working out that you naturally learn over time. So let’s get into them!

Importance of Focus When Working Out

Focus is something that anyone who has tried to lose weight or become more fit knows about. You can have all the best intentions in the world, but if you don’t have the focus, you will never be able to achieve your goals. You can have the best diet in the world, but if you don’t have the focus, you will go back to eating junk food as soon as the diet is over. Without focus you won’t be able to stick to your training program and won’t achieve your physique goals.

When it comes to working out or exercising, most people only think about the number of sets or the intensity of their workout. However, if you are focused on what you are doing, you are able to accomplish much more in your workout. Focus is not just about being able to stay concentrated on a single task or activity. It’s about being able to have control over your mind as well. If you are able to focus on your workout, you are able to finish it without getting distracted. You are able to get into a rhythm and work more productively. You are also able to push yourself to do more than you thought you could do. You are more efficient and can accomplish more in a shorter amount of time.

Focus also makes the workout more enjoyable because it allows you to be in the present and escape from the stressors of life.

8 Tips to Stay Focused While Working Out

I wanted to give you all some tried and tested tips that work for most people but experiment and see what works for you.

1. Set a goal: It is hard to focus on something when you don’t have a goal or an idea in mind. So first of all, you need a goal or goals to keep you going that you can focus on achieving during your workouts.

2. Track your progress: You can do this by using a personal trainer app or by writing things down as well. This forces you to actually be counting your sets and reps and seeing how much weight you’re doing. This puts your focus on your workout and not on outside things.

3. Workout with the RIGHT kind of partner: I say it this way because having a partner with you can actually hurt your focus if it is the wrong kind of partner. If it is a partner that is just there to socialize and chat then they are hurting you more than they are helping you. But, if you have a partner that is more focused than you that you would like to emulate, this pushes you to be better as well. So find a disciplined and focused training partner to keep you accountable.

4. Stick to your schedule: Pick when you are going to work out and stick to it. Don’t just go when you feel like it or when you’re free that day. It doesn’t work. This is why so many go in the mornings before their days start to avoid something coming up causing them to miss the gym. When you go at the same time you know that time is for working out and you are already conditioned to be focused.

5. Silence your phone: This is a huge one. Our phone is probably our biggest distractor. And it makes it hard when we are using an app for example to track our progress. Make sure to silence specific apps that are constantly notifying you like work emails for example. Many phones now have a focus or do not disturb mode now that you can activate so you aren’t dinging during your workout. This one takes practice and discipline for sure.

6. Play some motivating tunes: Music is a great way to drown out the outside world and when you pick intense pump-up songs, it keeps you focused and going. And if you use noise-canceling headphones such as AirPods Pros, it further helps you to silence the outside world and it also deters people from talking to you and distracting you further.

7. Muscle-mind connection: When you are performing your repetitions, try to really be present and mindful. Focus on and feel the targeted muscle contracting with each rep. Not only will this help you see better results, it will calm your mind as well.

8. Nootropics: These are brain boosting drugs that claim to enhance focus and energy. Some examples are caffeine, creatine, theanine, methylliberine, and alpha-gpc. So this is a way to physically induce a more focused stay through what you consume. There are many more that exist but these are some of the more studied ones. You can get all of these ingredients in a pre workout like Pre Jym X and with code WELLNESS101 you can receive 15% off! Always do your research and consult with your doctor before consuming any type of drugs.

I hope this was helpful as you journey towards total wellness! Staying focused doesn’t mean not enjoying yourself. It means you are doing what you should be doing. Concentrate on your goals and the results will follow.
